Review: R. Kelly - "Untitled" | ♥ ♥ ♥ X X

Say what you want about Robert Sylvester Kelly, I still love that misogynist golden shower boy trapped in a man's body, with a mind of a sexual frustrated Aaron Spelling.

One thing that's for sure is that he isn't out to renew himself with this, the "Untitled", Kellz' ninth studio album. The album was initially supposed to be released in 2008 under the name "12 Play, 4th Quarter" however that version of the project leaked before release and so it was decided that the whole project should be re-recorded. But as I said, renewal isn't on the map, we're still just about the sex, 'Bangin' the Headboard, 'Go Low' and having the best sex there is with Keri Hilson in 'Number One'.

But, at some point listening to this album, it all becomes a bit tragic. How Kellz _has_ to play the sex-card every single track. It's a bit like that porn-flick that used to be the shit but then after some watches you skip to the best parts and then after that thinks it's gone tumble dry. It has lost it's magic.

But even if Kellz sometimes feels like that one-trick-pony he actually manges to refine himself. Seems like all drama finally caught up to the King. "Untitled" feels mature. We're no longer wanna hibernate in big bootys, we're actually speaking of making babies in 'Pregnant' with Tyrese, Robin Thicke & The-Dream. One of the best tracks, 'Echo', where R. Kelly gets his yodeling skillz on, is the perfect example of maturity. Even if it feels a bit banal, like "Sound of Music", the porn light version.

"Untitled" is a solid album, 15 tracks long, but no matter how great R. Kelly is, there's too many of them indifferent slow jams on it. My gag reflex kicks in quite a lot to be honest, esp. on 'Whole Lotta Kisses'. I kinda prefer the sexual freak show Kelly usually throws over this, this is a bit icky to be frank. "Love Songs Collection" anno 1993 revisited. 'Be My #2' makes my stomach turn inside out and I can't stand 'Religious'.

Sometimes Kellz feels like a parody of himself. Rhymes like feel/real in 'Text Me' where he jumps on the sexting hype, feels more like a sad story of a needy man acting like a boyish puppy.

However, all songs of the album isn't dripping of melting sugar, 'I Love the DJ' is a cute homage to female DJs, perfect for the club and the best track of them 15, 'Superman High' with OJ da Juiceman manages to keep the oh so rinsed superhero-topic fresh.

All and all, It is like he says in 'Like I Do': "There ain't nobody to rock your body like the Rrrrrr...".

sorry, I'm in a veil mood but seriously, kinda pointless to submit your POW and leave it unsigned?
